Catskill Wheelhouse is a cooperative school nestled in the foothills of the Catskill mountains. Our schoolhouse is a renovated barn on a 200-acre farm in Catskill, NY.
Our work is to build a place that supports family in all its forms, and where children feel challenged, capable, and irreplaceable. Our days consist of learning through open-ended play and functional tasks such as cooking, building, and gardening alongside attentive, caring adults. There is time and space for more focused projects led by the children’s interest and curiosity, and plenty of time for exploring the beautiful land around us. We believe that a child is never too young to be an important member of a community. That they should be valued and listened to. That they should be tasked with work that matters.
Our program for children ages 3-6 opened in the fall of 2015, our program for ages 7-10 is still in its planning stages.
