Durham

Drawing a Crowd - Year after Year

Durham’s major industries are tourism and health care products. Almost 100 businesses are located in Durham, including a facility for the multinational Glaxo-Smith-Kline. The main business routes are SR 145 in East Durham and SR 81 in Oak Hill.

The state-designated Durham Valley Scenic Byways Corridor is home to a network of 22 miles of scenic byways. The East Durham Irish Festival, Irish Arts Week and Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival are major tourism events. These festivals draw upwards to 7,000 visitors per night. In the summer, Zoom Flume Water Park is a popular destination. In winter, Durham is close to skiing at Windham Mountain.

Find Your Home

Our charming and affordable real estate appeals to business investors, second home seekers, and retirees. The owners of Preserved Instincts, a record store in Oak Hill, came here from Brooklyn because when their lease expired there, the rent was tripled. Most of their successful business was online,  but they found they could afford a storefront here, and have since purchased a beautiful home.
