Catskill

The County Seat

The Village of Catskill is directly accessible to the NYS Thruway Exit 21, and has one of only seven bridge crossings over the Hudson River – The Rip Van Winkle Bridge, which provides easy access to the Amtrak Train Station in the City of Hudson, Catskill’s sister city.

Previous vacant buildings now house restaurants, retail stops, galleries, wine bars, coffee shops and other businesses. The county and the village are working on a walking trail from the Uncle Sam Bridge to the Catskill Mountain Railway Bridge providing direct access for customers to the waterfront businesses. Meanwhile, the Hudson River Skywalk crosses the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, creating a walking trail that connects both sides of the river.

According to the 2017 Census:

  • The Town of Catskill has 11,439 people living in 4,236 households.
  • There are 5,996 housing units in the town.
  • The Village of Catskill has 3,833 people.
  • There are 1,889 housing units in the village

Although business investment in the Village of Catskill is on the rise, there remain a variety of spaces available for business development, including several loft-style waterfront historic brick and industrial buildings providing direct access to the Catskill Creek. The Main Street also continues to have opportunities for “over the store” living.
